Heinen, a family success story
Heinen Doors is a Belgian family-owned company, founded in 1947 by Rudolphe Heinen as a blacksmith workshop. Over the decades, it has grown to become a European leader in the production of fire-resistant metal doors, particularly in 1973, when it designed the first steel fire door with complete insulation. This innovation came about in the context of stricter fire safety standards, following a tragic incident in Brussels, where a fire at the Innovation department store caused over two hundred deaths. In response to this tragedy, Hans-Dieter Heinen, the son of Rudolphe Heinen and an engineer-physicist at the University of Liège at the time, developed the first steel fire door offering complete insulation, in compliance with the new strict standards.
The use of steel in a fire-resistant door was a major breakthrough, made possible by an innovative chemical treatment developed by Heinen. This process slowed the heat transfer while cooling the steel, resulting in a door that could withstand fire for more than an hour. Today, this concept, Metal+ Inside, remains at the core of Heinen Door’s products, which include fire-resistant doors with insulation up to four hours, burglar-resistant doors, explosion-proof doors, bulletproof doors, and acoustic doors.
Heinen quickly positioned itself as a pioneer in security door solutions, developing innovative protection solutions such as burglar-resistant, bulletproof, and acoustic doors. The company has also obtained quality certifications, including the ISO 9001 standard, underscoring its commitment to excellence.
Today, Heinen continues to lead the way in innovation. Its doors, weighing between 100 and more than 300 kilograms, are designed with an internal steel structure, a frame of 60 x 60 x 2 millimetre profile tubes, reinforced with horizontal and vertical crossbars, ensuring exceptional strength. These doors undergo rigorous testing, both internally and at reputable independent testing institutes.
In 2021, Heinen became part of the Heinen Doors International group, strengthening its position in the global security market. At the same time, the Belgian company began construction of a new production facility, expected to be operational by 2025, to meet the growing demand for its high-security products. Through years of innovation and growth, Heinen Doors has solidified its role as a reference in the design and manufacture of high-security doors.
